Infrared Wireless LAN Monitoring Tool

OUTLINE
This tool provides a LAN monitoring function using TCP/IP communication between a server and a client processes at a specified interval. It transmits an alarm message to notify to a user that a user link is shielded when the infrared network is shielded. The interval between network checks is 10 seconds or more. Transfer parameters for monitoring can be set from a client.

OPERATING CONDITIONS
TYPES OF MACHINE: PC/AT or compatible machines
OPERATING SYSTEM: Windows 95, Windows NT 4.0(Windows NT supports Intel Version)
PROTOCOL: Microsoft TCP/IP

SET-UP PROCEDURE
  1. Select a computer which runs the server process from among the computers on the network. Select an appropriate machine by examining maintenance interval and usage conditions to avoid frequent server shutdowns due to power failure or user log-out.
  2. Set up server process (NetServer.exe) on computer you selected.
  3. Set up client process (NetClient.exe) on another computer.
  4. Enter the server name you want to connect in the client.
    If the connection is not correctly established, check the network configuration again. You may use the Ping utility on the TCP/IP network to check that the server responds normally.
  5. After set-up, the Monitoring Tool checks the link by executing communication automatically at a regular interval.
If shielded or disconnected conditions are detected on the network, an alarm dialog box appears on the screen. If you want to monitor the link from multiple client computers, execute the set-up procedure(steps 3 and 4 above) on other computers. You may select up to 255 client computers to communicate with a server process for monitoring the network. Be careful, however, about network traffic if multiple client computers are running at one time.

SOFTWARE VERSION
You can check the software version of this Monitoring Tool by pressing the "About" button after installing the software.

NDIS Device Driver(Ver.1.2) for the Infrared Wireless LAN PC Card

BEFORE USE
1 This device driver is compatible with communication software conforming to MSDOS (PC-DOS) Ver. 3.3 or above, and NDIS 2.1

2 This device driver works with IBM ThinkPad or compatible machines which have a PCMCIA slot for Card Service Ver.2.1.

3 Card Service Ver.2.1 requires a memory window. The following configuration is required to assign a memory window on the segment D800-DBFF(normal assignment).

DEVICE=EMM386.EXE /X=D800-DBFF This setting is a standard, however, some machines can use other configuration. Refer to the User Manual for the computer you want to use for the detailed information.

4 To install the device driver, use one of the following installation programs.
- MS LANMANAGER 2.1
- Protocol Driver
- Communication Application

5 If installation fails using the above programs, copy the device driver and manually correct the files CONFIG.SYS and PROTOCOL.INI to install. (This method is not recommended for beginners) An example is shown below.

BINDINGS= "OPTPCM_NIF"
[OPTPCM_NIF]
DRIVERNAME="OPTPCM"
INTERRUPT=5
IOADDRESS=0x310 (I/O port which the card uses)
MAXTRANSMITS=4
PC98=No
EMS=No (or Yes, if the protocol driver uses EMS)
Set IO ADDRESS to "0" to use the recommended value from the Card Service.

NOTES
1 This driver is designed to be used for the Infrared Wireless LAN PC Card (OA-P101(U)). It cannot be used in any other communication PC cards.

2 Do not unmount the card while the network is in operation. Set the PC mode so that the suspend/resume function will not work while the network is in operation. (Note that this card, although supporting Card Service Ver.2.1, will not support unmounting operation in an active condition nor computer suspend/resume functions)

3 This driver will not work without the protocol driver conforming to the NDIS 2.1 Specification.

NDIS3.1 Device Driver(Ver. 1.03) for the Infrared Wireless LAN PC Card

BEFORE USE
1 This device driver is used with Microsoft Windows95 (Ver. 4.00.950 or over).

2 This device driver works with IBM ThinkPad or compatible machines, which have a PCMCIA slot for Card Service Ver.2.1.

INSTALLATION

1 Insert the PCMCIA card into a notebook computer running Windows95 and requiring 32-bit Card Service.

2 Follow the Windows95 installer, as shown below.

Driver supplied by hardware manufacturer ->
Install from floppy disk ->
Copy source from distributed file 3D A: A5NIDS3 ->
(Device selection 3D specify this card)

3 From the network on the control panel, set up the client and the protocol conforming to the network you use. (Rebooting is required to make the these network settings effective)

4 If you can see the other computers on the network, installation is successful.

NOTES
1 This driver is designed to be used with the Infrared Wireless LAN PC Card (OA-P101(U)). It cannot be used with any other communication PC cards.
2 This driver will not work without the protocol driver conforming to the NDIS 3.1 Specification.

SUPPLEMENTARY ITEMS
You can check the driver version by selecting:
1) [control panel] --> [network], or
2) [explorer] --> [file(F)] --> [property(R)]
