To make the most of your JVC Digital Camcorder, just upgrade to the appropriate Multimedia docking station to connect it to your personal computer. There's no need to invest in a complicated video capture board because the optional GV-DS1 and GV-DS2 Docking Stations can provide direct digital output via serial cable to the computer's 9-pin serial port (RS-232C). The GV-CB3(JLIP) offers the same results in a stand alone, battery operated unit.
Once the Video Capture software has been installed, it's easy to import still images from the camcorder. To speed the process, thumbnail-size shots (80 x 60 dots) are then transferred in either BMP or JPEG format. Transferred images can then be processed (using appropriate software), filed or printed to form a photo database, incorporated into multimedia presentations and Web pages, or sent attached to e-mail (all at full-size, VGA 640 x 480 resolution, 16.77 million colors).
To control and monitor the status of the GR-DVA1 or the GR-DVL9000U from the computer, the software makes use of JLIP (Joint Level Interface Protocol). With the Docking Station's J-terminal connected to other JLIP-ready equipment, centralized control from the computer is easy, requiring a few clicks of the mouse. JLIP also enables automatic retrieval of snapshots for printing via the Digital Video Printers.
