JVC INTRODUCES NEW "DUALCAM"

WORLD'S FIRST COMPACT VHS CAMCORDER INTEGRATING A FULL FUNCTION DIGITAL STILL CAMERA

Las Vegas, NV, January 8, 1998 . . . JVC, the inventor of VHS, has shown time and time again an unrivaled ability to come up with breakthrough products tailor-made to suit every videophile's wish list. Now, hard on the heels of its successful Digital Video "CyberCam" series, this relentlessly innovative company is introducing the GR-AXM700 - a new camcorder that brings today's most popular image capturing devices together in a single unit. Dubbed the "DualCam", the GR-AXM700 is a high-performance Compact VHS camcorder with an integrated Digital Flash Memory.

Digital Flash Memory

The GR-AXM700 DualCam offers a wide range of video functions that will let the user record superior video footage on Compact VHS cassettes. And at any moment, whenever you'd want to take a digital still shot, DualCam lets you do just that - at the touch of a button. No fuss. Since there is no need to carry a separate camera for this purpose, the user will have less baggage to carry whether traveling on business or for pleasure.

The images taken are stored in DualCam's built-in flash memory which can hold up to 44 (standard mode) or 22 (fine mode) shots. Watching those digital stills is also made easy because the camcorder lets you display them in index screens (thumbnails) or in slideshows right on the LCD monitor, much the way you'd browse through an image gallery on your computer screen.

Since DualCam is an integrated "hybrid" product, it will let you take advantage of the camcorder's powerful zoom capabilities (22x optical, 44x digital), digital special effects, and other features, even when shooting digital stills, for far more shooting versatility than you would get with a standalone digital camera. You can even insert pictures from the built-in digital still camera into your VHS video footage while you're recording - a unique DualCam advantage.

Bundled Image Transfer and Retouching Software

JVC's DualCam is also provided with everything needed to transfer those digital still images to a personal computer - including connection cables and software. Simply connect the camcorder to the serial port of a personal computer and use the supplied Picture Navigator software to download and save (JPEG format) your pictures on your hard drive, ready to be used in your Web page or sent around the globe as email attachments. Provided in both WindowsÌ 95 and Macintosh versions, Picture Navigator also lets you organize your transferred pics into albums, and even allows you to upload pictures from the PC back to the DualCam. This ability makes it possible to create visually appealing title pages on your computer and insert them into your video footage, for a more orderly and up-tempo video program.WindowsÌ 95 and 3.1 users can also take advantage of MGI PhotoSuite SE, which adds full post-production capabilities with a wide range of image processing effects that will bring out anybody's creative side - including rotating, trimming, painting, stretching, and much more. PhotoSuite, also comes with a large selection of templates, such as frames, calendars, posters, and greeting cards, which make creative graphic production as easy as clicking on a few icons.

Flexible Shooting Performance

JVC has also upped the ante when it comes to zooming, offering incredible high-quality closeups with 22x Optical Hyper Zoom. And while 22x is probably more than enough zooming capability for almost any shooting situation, JVC has provided some extra insurance in the form of the 44x Digital Hyper Zoom which uses digital technology to double the maximum optical zoom range. In either case, this high magnification capability at the camera will let users avoid having to enlarge their pictures at the PC and wind up with "jaggedy" looking blown-up images.Naturally, JVC hasn't forgotten that there are times when you want to pull back and try to fit more people or scenery into the picture at one time. To match this requirement, DualCam also offers a Wide-Angle capability equivalent to a 36mm lens on a 35mm camera. For superior shooting and viewing flexibility, the GR-AXM700 is equipped with a 3-inch high-resolution LCD color monitor that can be tilted down for high-angle overhead shooting, tilted up for low-angle shots, or pointed forward for self-portraits. The 110,000-pixel viewscreen provides sharp, clear images that let you see exactly what you're doing and make it easy to play back and watch your video recordings even if you're miles away from a TV or VCR.To dramatically reduce the effects of camera-shake which tends to become more noticeable at high zoom magnification, JVC's Picture Stabilizer uses digital technology that's able to recognize the user's unique camera-shake characteristics and compensate accordingly. It's also smart enough to differentiate between camera shake and intentional pans and tilts. Providing a solid base for DualCam's video picture quality is the Pro-cision 5-Head System which includes a Flying Erase Head to assure seamless connections between recordings and allow glitch-free insertion of new scenes into previously-shot video when using the Insert Editing function.

Worry-Free Recording

Whether shooting motion video or digital stills, it's the end results that count. JVC has made it extremely easy to get guaranteed results all the time by including a built-in Auto Light that automatically turns on or off as required so users can concentrate on the shot instead of the lighting situation. To make things even simpler, the GR-AXM700 also incorporates JVC's Auto Pilot System which comprises Quick-Response Full Range AF, Digital White Balance, Auto Exposure, and Auto BLC (Back Light Compensation). It literally takes care of all shooting essentials to offer true point-and-shoot convenience.Other features designed to take the worry out of recording include the Super Head Cleaner which automatically cleans the heads every time a tape is loaded, and a built-in lens shield. Retake and Quick Review functions make it easy to redo or check your shots while you're recording.

Multifunctional Enhancements

The GR-AXM700 comes with everything needed to start producing high-quality, professional-looking videos right away. The provided Full-Function Remote Control not only lets the user operate the camcorder from a distance, but also adds several valuable functions to the camcorder including Insert Editing and Audio Dubbing. The purchase of an optional Multi-Brand Remote will add even more creative capability in the form of Random Assemble Editing which allows the user to select up 8 scenes, in any order, and at the touch of a button they're copied to a connected VCR in the order specified.JVC has also provided a wide selection digital effects that will make it much easier for you to give your videos that professional "feel" even if you don't have a room full of video editing equipment. These include creative digital scene transitions such as Mosaic Fader, Shutter Wipe and Slide Wipe, as well as the traditional black fader.Considering the wealth of features that are available on the GR-AXM700, it's amazing how easy-to-use this camcorder is. JVC has upgraded its original Program Manager system to deliver even speedier access to a wide variety of features. The new Program Manager II encompasses functions like Super LoLux which boosts lowlight sensitivity to less than 1 lux at the touch of a button, and Program AE with Special Effects. Effects include Sepia, Twilight, Sports, High-Speed Shutter, Fog Filter, ND Filter, and Nega/Posi - all of which can be used while taking digital snapshots as well as video recordings! Also accessible through Program Manager II is a Color Bar Generator which gives edited tapes a more professional look, as well as Tele-Macro, Instant Titles (available in English, Spanish, French and Portuguese), Self-Timer, Black Fader, and much more.By offering compatibility with the existing VHS infrastructure which accounts for over 650 million units worldwide, plus the new multimedia applications made possible with a digital still camera, JVC's GR-AXM700 DualCam is one of the ways in which JVC is establishing itself as a uniquely innovative developer in step with the growing multimedia industry.
