JVC INTRODUCES WORLD'S FIRST HANDHELD EMAIL and FAX DEVICE

September 16, 1998 -- JVC announced today that it had developed PocketMail, a unique handheld email device capable of sending and receiving email, fax, and text messages with complete reliability, regardless of geographic location. This new product gives business professionals, students and mobile workers an afforable, easy-to-use solution for maintaining communications with business associates, family and friends. Using a single interface, PocketMail works with any telephone connection, including cellular, pay telephones, office and hotel PBXs. No special connectors or hardware configurations are needed.

Just pop it in your pocket and go!

Able to fit in a shirt pocket and about the size of a calculator, portable PocketMail offers a battery life of several months. Better than a pager or cell phone, this handy unit frees consumers from the expense of portable telephones or laptop computers, while delivering superior communications capabilities. Utilzing state-of-the-art technology, these hand-held communication devices require absolutely no special connectors.

PocketMail's embedded electronic messaging tools begin with email and fax functions, but also include a calendar, addressbook, to-do list and additional features including an inbox/outbox for message managment, one-key access to personalized news and informaiton, a nd an optional smart calling card with auto dialer.

HOW POCKETMAIL WORKS

This extraordinary new tool, unveiled at a press conference headed by Harry Elias, has been named the first corporate partner of the newly expanded Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. JVC's partnership runs from 1997 to 2001.

Special Subscriber Service

The innovative PocketMail subscriber service is optimized for high-speed, accurage transmission of short (up to 4,000 characters!) messages. For an introductory basic monthly service fee of $9.95, subscribers can recieve and send email and pater messages using exisiting one-way paging and telephony networks. In addition, PocketMail subscribers can also view time-sensitive personalized news and information instantly via a dynamic user interface and intelligent agents.
