Orlando, FL, April 13, 1997 . . . JVC, the inventor of VHS, recently unveiled a

comprehensive new Compact VHS camcorder line for 1997. Without exception,

these new camcorders offer an outstanding array of creative features,

operational simplicity, and user-friendliness in both function and form.

With the new 18x Hyper Zoom, in only about two seconds the lens can be

zoomed all the way from wide to 18x telephoto for magnificent closeups.

Conversely, zoomed out to Wide Angle, the camera offers a scene-filled shot

equivalent to a 36mm lens on a 35mm SLR camera.

Taking advantage of their new Hi-Sensitivity CCD and other technologies,

all models in JVC's 1997 camcorder lineup offer low-light sensitivity for

worry-free recording even in insufficient light. Collectively called Super

LoLux, these technologies boast low-light sensitivity of under 1 lux.

All models also offer a Tele-Macro mode, which enables the user to shoot

close-up macro shots from a comfortable distance of 20 inches - reducing

the chance of getting the camcorder's shadow into the shot, or scaring off

small animals, insects, or other "camera-shy" subjects.

Operating these new camcorders is about as easy as it gets. JVC's Program Manager groups multiple functions - over 20 individual functions in all -

into a unified control center with the most often-used functions also the

most accessible. Accessible functions include Program AE with Special

Effects, Fader, Wide Mode, Instant Titles, Date/Time/Character Insert, and

much more, including Digital Wipes and Fades on their digital model.

Comprehensive but simple menus reduce the number of buttons and a 4-way

push-pad is provided for basic set-up, manual override, and Animation/

Timelapse/Self-Timer intervals and durations. With all available functions

displayed in the viewfinder, the user can make a choice without having to

take their eye off the action.

Another coup for simplicity is the Auto Pilot System. Literally like

putting the camcorder on auto pilot, this system handles all the details,

while the user gets to concentrate solely on what to shoot. The system

includes Quick-Response Full Range AF, Digital White Balance, Auto

Exposure, and Auto BLC, thus taking care of all shooting essentials to

offer true point-and-shoot convenience. Their higher-end models also

feature an Auto Light which automatically turns off or on as required.

Making a video doesn't end when you stop shooting. That's why all JVC

camcorders come with Random Assemble Editing. The easiest way to edit

camcorder footage, this proven system allows the user to select up to 8

scenes at a time, in any order, and then at the press of a button, the

scenes are automatically rearranged and edited to a connected video deck.

Certain models in the lineup are equipped with a high-resolution color

monitor that employs a 110,000-pixel 3-inch color LCD. It displays a clear

full-color image that the user can enjoy while shooting, and with its

built-in speaker, lets the user and his audience enjoy immediate playback

in the field. This monitor is also tiltable for high-angle and low-angle

shooting, and can be rotated 180É to point forward, allowing self-recording

and enabling precise framing when using the Self-timer function.

The digital high-end models feature 36x Digital Hyper Zoom which uses

digital technology to double the maximum optical zoom range, to catch

ultra-closeups of virtually any subject.

Shaky zoom pictures are not a problem either - JVC's intelligent Picture

Stabilizer digitally compensates for camera shake by recognizing the user's

unique shake characteristics, and is also smart enough to differentiate

between camera shake and intentional pans and tilts.

And creative digital scene transitions such as Mosaic Fader, Shutter Wipe

and Slide Wipe, which aren't present on the other models, are available on

JVC's high-end model.

This year, all JVC camcorders will be featuring the new J-Terminal. Based on JVC's newly standardized control protocol called "JLIP" (Joint Level

Interface Protocol), this system allows users to connect their JVC

camcorder to a personal computer (Windows® 3.1 or Windows® 95 operated PC) and build an integrated multimedia system. With the appropriate software,

available with separately sold JVC multimedia devices - such as their

GV-PT2 Multimedia Printer or GV-CB1 Video Capture Box - it becomes possible

for people to use their precious video images in a variety of new ways.

These include everything from straightforward video image printing, to

image capture for use in presentations or Web home pages in the Internet.

JVC's Compact VHS camcorder lineup is comprised of six palm-sized units, two of which are equipped with an LCD monitor. They are: GR-AX220,

GR-AX420, GR-AX720, GR-AX920, plus the LCD models GR-AXM10 and

GR-AXM25.

The GR-AX220's 18x Hyper Zoom with Wide Angle and Tele-Macro, Program Manager, Auto Pilot System, and Random Assemble Editing give it a good entry-level balance of creativity and operational simplicity. Available now for a nationally advertised value of $649.95

The GR-AX420 adds extra convenience to the GR-AX220's list of features

The GR-AX720, in addition to all of the features offered on the GR-AX420, provides a built-in Auto Light, and comes with a Full-Function Remote

Control which adds valuable features like Insert Editing and Audio Dubbing

For those who want to enjoy the power and flexibility that digital

technology brings, there's the GR-AX920 which adds the creative convenience

of Digital Wipe/Fade, the power of a 36x Digital Hyper Zoom, and the

shooting stability of JVC's Picture Stabilizer, to everything offered on

the GR-AX720. The GR-AX920 is currently available at a national ad value of $899.95

The entry-level LCD model is the GR-AXM10 which boosts the standard
